Integrity in public governance

Integrity in public governance

Integrity of public governance within a symbiotic framework.

Kofi Annan who recently passed away made efforts to convince us that good governance without integrity does not exists. Even after he retired as secretary-general of the UN. A few years ago he said: ‘Corruption hurts the poor disproportionately by diverting funds intended for development, undermining a government’s ability to provide basic services, feeding inequality and injustice, and discouraging foreign investment and aid’.

In spite of lots of projects in lots of countries to improve integrity of governments and combat desintegrity and corruption, the results are astonishingly poor.

Ten years ago I published a book on how to improve integrity. Below you find a long summary of the book in English.

Basically I am saying that desintegrity and corruptions are the results of derailment of normal human behavior patterns. We need to become aware of the risks of derailment and find out how to get back on track again. It is very much a matter of being attentive and creating a culture of integrity.
These are the chapters:
1. How integrity appeared on the political and my personal agenda 2. Basic Concepts
3. Manifestations of integrity and desintegrity: types of derailments 4. Why is desintegrity bad for everybody?
5. Causes of desintegrity
6. Some notes: personal, educational, sociological and professional 7. Integrity policies: how to support a culture of integrity
